This week I learned about fractions and decimals. I learnt that a quarter is the same as .25 because 1 quarter of 1 hole equals .25 .if that’s true it means that 3 quarters equals .75 and a half equals .5 Matua taught us this because in our books some of the questions sometimes used fractions and decimals. Did you know that you use fractions and decimals in baking? I know because Mum uses items to measure the ingredients out. I found learning about fractions and decimals really interesting and I now have another piece of wisdom from Matua Travis
My Year In 2025.
This Year 2025.
I learnt a lot of stuff at kura. My favorite subject at kura is math and my least favorite subject is reading. I like math so much because I think it is really interesting because you always get to do different things each week. The thing that I don’t like about reading because sometimes you read for heaps of time like you can read for 3 months. A big highlight for me this year was going to tuhono. I got to blow the Pūtatara (shell). It was really fun. I got to wear a hat that was made out of feathers. It was really cool, most other boys just got one or two feathers. Me/Finn Tk and Oliver got to wear the hats with more feathers. It was really cool, we came third in the haka and we got first for our outfit because our whole group had a ta moko.

Money
Pangarau
This term, one of the things we have been learning about is money. I was a little bit confident but then I realised it was actually hard. Then it got easier and easier because when I didn’t get it I would ask questions and also practice. I learned that 10cents is the smallest coin in New Zealand. If you buy something and the cents are less than 10cents, the shop keeper rounds it up to the closest 10 if it is 6 – 9 cents and down to the nearest 10 if it is less than 5 cents. It was still kind of hard, but it was getting fun. I got 81% in my final test.
Recently we have finished participating in Winter Sports Winter sports is where our school competes with other schools in a variety of winter activities.
My chosen activity this year was Touch rugby. It was on every Friday. We leave at 12: 00. We have to walk to Rawhiti Domain. It is kind of fun because you get to talk to all of your friends. We played 2 games of what we chose so I will play 2 touch games. There are two teams in year 5/6. I am in the Rattle Snakes and the other team is called the Rabbits. I wanted to play touch rugby because it was the closest to rugby. There was not much excitement but it was still fun.
Winter Sport.
This term I started winter sports. It was my first season doing winter sports. There were so many options of sport to choose from, but I picked touch rugby. I don’t regret playing touch, it is so fun.We play two games every Friday. There are two teams. I’m in the Rattle Snakes. The other team is called Rabbits. I’m in the team with my friend Kortea but my other friend Mataius is in the other team. My team is quite good. We walk down to Rawhiti Domain for our games. Touch doesn’t have any t-shirts, so we have to use rugby ones. We have won most of our games.

Weekly Reflection
One thing I really enjoyed this week was the time in pangarau/math. Me and Kortea picked it up very fast. We were the first people to finish the work. A challenge I faced this week was. Handwriting because I couldn’t get it finished in time with my group.
Something I felt proud of this week is mau rakau because everyone had to run. 2 laps around the back holding a rope.Next week, I want to get better at handwriting so I. Can finish it in time with my group.
If I could change one thing about this week, it would be math. I think it was too easy.
